Updated January 9, 2008 - Our free service was discontinued on January 1, 2008
In June 2003, we launched PR Leap. In the last three months, more people have signed up for a free account than in the first 15 months of service. The increased usage placed a real strain on the server, and we intended to do a fundrasier for the purchase of a new server.
As you know, PR Leap was down last weekend for scheduled maintaince, Saturday and Sunday. But what you don’t know is that we were actually down until Tuesday because the server did not restart. The irony is that on Saturday, as a joke, I asked Merrick: “What if it does not start again?” Believe me, niether one of us was laughing on Sunday when it did not start. Because of this we had to get in a new server before we could run the “New Server Fundraiser.”
The new server cost us $5,000. That doesn’t even consider the bandwidth costs, but that’s ok because we have a good deal worked out with our current service provider. The new server brings more capacity, speed to PR Leap (especially on the statistics report), and it also enables us to introduce many new services in the coming months.
Of course, it doesn’t make good business sense to drop $5,000 on a new server that is solely for a service that is completely free. One option is to charge for the service and the other is to ask for donations to help cover the actual costs. So it basically comes down to this, if everyone that uses PR Leap donated just $2.50 (only once), the cost would be covered. Realistically, not all members are going to donate, so that is why we ask for a minimum $10.00 donation.
If you make a donation of $100 or more we will give you recognition below. We will place one link to the page of your choice - once we receive the donation we will contact you via email to get the text and URL for the link.
Either way, if you like the PR Leap service, please help keep it free and alive by making a donation for a new server.
Sincerely,
Mario and Merrick Lozano
PR Leap Co-founders
